Creative Curriculum

Our curriculum is a continually evolving blend of learning experiences, designed to develop the fundamental skills, which children need to succeed. The school curriculum is aimed to be relevant, interesting and engaging.

The curriculum offered at Sutton Primary Academy is in line with the National Curriculum requirements for a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum, to:  

Provide pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said, and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

It is intended that each pupil be given the opportunity to develop the qualities and skills detailed below.
  • Language and communication skills in expressing their thoughts, feelings and ideas, coherently, concisely and imaginatively in conversation, discussion, debate and writing and to read and comprehend the thoughts, feelings and ideas of others.
  • Enquiring minds with reasoning, thinking, numerical and computational skills. Such skills that are required for:
  • the observation, classification and interpretation of information;
  • the formulation and testing of hypotheses;
  • the analysis and solving of problems in a logical and rational manner;
  • decision making.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and principals of science, technology and the humanities required:
  • to respond effectively to the social, economic, technological and political environment;
  • to develop a concern for the natural and man-made environment;
  • to respond to the demands of everyday life specifically in relation to personal relationships, assessments and the requirements of the National Curriculum Attainment Targets.
  • Creative skills and aesthetic appreciation of art, technology, drama, literature, music and physical expression in order to experience the enjoyment, satisfaction and sense of achievement in creative activity and design.
  • Personal attitudes, values and social skills necessary for stable and satisfactory personal relationships with others and a sense of responsibility, integrity, self-discipline, co-operation and service. It is the intention of the Governors, Head Teachers and Staff that pupils shall enjoy commonality of educational experience and opportunity regardless of ability, sex, race, religion or culture.

Whole School Curriculum

The children follow a programme of topics that incorporates the whole range of National Curriculum subjects. Each topic has a particular bias towards a subject or subjects but also incorporates to a lesser extent other National Curriculum subjects. We place a strong emphasis on personalised learning throughout the school, which means the pupils are closely involved in monitoring their own education.
