In order to become successful learners, pupils should develop lifelong strategies, which will positively affect their happiness levels and give them the skills they can then apply to all aspects of their lives. At Sutton Primary Academy we aim to teach a broad range of skills and games in Physical Education. We want to give children the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact in their own physical health and well-being. We want all children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices. PE can challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving. It can teach children to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team based physical activities. Within dance it will allow children to explore their personal and spiritual identity.
Relationships and Health Education curriculum. This scheme embodies a whole school approach, it makes clear links with British Values, Cultural capital and SMSC but PSHE is also embedded within the wider curriculum through cross-curricular work and also underpins behaviour and respect in all lessons and everything we do.
The Governors statement of sex education in this school is that “part of the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) of this school will include sex education”. Formal sex education is offered to Y6 children after written notification to parents/guardians. Individual’s questions are dealt with in an honest and understanding way, as sensible caring parents would deal with their own children.
