Design & Technology

At Sutton Primary Academy, we feel it is vital to nurture creativity and innovation through design. We aim to inspire our learners to take an interest in exploring the designed and made world in which we all live and work. 

Through our Design and Technology curriculum, our children are encouraged to identify, examine and solve practical problems. They are encouraged to be inventive, using a range of materials and tools, thus developing, modifying and evaluating their ideas through a series of projects. We believe D&T gives children the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products.  

What does D&T look like at Sutton Primary Academy?  

At Sutton, we ensure the following is provided: 

• Carefully planned opportunities to encourage the transference of skills and knowledge and to build upon previous learning; 
• Lessons designed to engage, challenge and inspire children. 
• Space for our children to be expressive, creative and innovate. 
• Opportunities for children to complete projects related to STEM; 

• Trips and visits from experts who will enhance the learning experience and improve knowledge and understanding.
