Class 3 explored the question, ‘How can we identify native trees through the seasons?’ during our ‘Science and Harmony’ week in school. We had so much fun learning all about the principle of a cycle. The children had the opportunity to link this Harmony principle to all subject areas.
We used the rings on a tree to find out how old they are, explored the life cycle of the tree, did leaf bashing using cloth, honoured our trees by making decorations, used apple cross sections to explore geometry and fractions, identified the trees here at school and we even came up with our own dances in PE based on the life cycle of a tree. We thought about what we were grateful for and used natural resources to make our own gratitude trees. We spent a whole day learning about apples, we managed to use them in English, maths, science and Geography. By the end of the week, the children were full of scientific knowledge and vocabulary, it was fantastic to see.
